School Council
School Council at Roundwood
The school council at Roundwood play a crucial role in representing their fellow pupils and working collobaratively to make a real difference both in school and within the local community.
Each year, we hold elections whereby children put themselves forward for the role of school councillor by sharing their vision with fellow pupils and undertaking a interview with the school council Lead, Miss Harper and Headteacher, Mrs Handley. From this, we then elect a school councillor and deputy councillor for Years 3 - 6. These children also work alongside our children at KS1 to listen to their thoughts, feelings and wishes, and to prepare them for being further involved once they join KS2.
All school councillors and awarded a metal school council badge which they wear with pride.
Just like our Personnel Development Passports, school councillors have a passport in which they work towards various objectives over the duration of their role. The passport encompasses the following objective areas: care, organisation, nature's friend, creativity, inclusiveness and listening. Ask a school councillor to see their passport when you are next in school.
School Council 2024 - 2025
NSPCC Kindness Challenge
This academic year, the School Council have chosen to support NSPCC as our national charity. In the Autumn term, the School Council created a 'Kindness Bingo' full of lots of ways to plant seeds of kindness into our everyday lives! The winning class were able to make lots of friendship bracelets to spread the kindness around the school.
Remembrance Memorial Cleanup
The School Council have been working on making connections with the local community this year. In aid of this, they got stuck in with cleaning the Remembrance Day war memorial and surrounding area ahead of the 11th November. The children swept the path, cleaned the monument and made sure that the path was not slippery for elderly members of the community coming to pay their respects. Their efforts were well-received throughout Gawcott, with many members commenting on how lovely the space looked, and how accessible it was.
Christmas Scavenger Hunt
In true Christmas Spirit, the School Council decided to give the gift of giggles with a Christmas Joke-themed scavenger hunt! The Councillors made Christmas decorations with festive jokes on the back and hid them around the village green. The tiny tots at the local playgroup had such fun running around and listening to the funny jokes! Of course, the School Council were rewarded for their efforts with an afternoon of playing with the little ones and drinking a well-deserved hot chocolate!
NSPCC Number Day
The School Council supported our celebration of NSPCC's Number Day by creating posters advertising the event. The bright and informative posters were placed all around school, notifying fellow students about the day.
Reading at Roundwood
Inspired by a tremendously successful World Book Day, the School Council have had the opportunity to encourage reading throughout the school. From tidying their class book corner to visiting the little ones at Tingewick, the School Council continue to do their part to ensure that a love for reading stays deeply rooted in our school values.
Alec's Angels
This year the School Council are raising money for a local charity named Alec's Angels. Alec was a student at roundwood and sadly lost his life to cancer at a young age. He never failed to make others smile and laugh, and so Alec's Angels was founded in his memory to provide smiles to those receiving hospice care. The School Council have teamed up with Gawcott's annual Gawcott Mile to raise money for the worthwhile cause, with a Mufti Day to be held on Friday 26th April. Watch this space!
