Anti-Bullying at Roundwood Primary School

Parent Summary

At Roundwood Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all children feel safe, valued and supported. Bullying of any kind is not tolerated, and we work proactively to create a positive, respectful and inclusive school environment.

What We Mean by Bullying

Bullying is behaviour that is:

  • Repeated

  • Intended to hurt

  • Involves an imbalance of power

This can include physical, verbal, emotional, online (cyberbullying) or prejudice-based bullying related to race, disability, gender, faith or family circumstances.

Our Values-Led Approach

Our approach to preventing and addressing bullying is rooted in our school values. We help children to understand and reflect on their behaviour by focusing on:

  • Being respectful

  • Being responsible

  • Being reliable

  • Being resilient

Behaviour conversations are supportive, restorative and focused on helping children learn from mistakes and make better choices.

Prevention and Education

We actively teach children about bullying through:

  • Assemblies and PSHE lessons

  • Discussions about kindness, difference and inclusion

  • Pupil voice activities such as School Council

  • Clear expectations about behaviour and relationships

Children are encouraged to speak out if they are worried and are taught that reporting bullying is the right and responsible thing to do.

What to Do If You Are Concerned

If you are worried that your child may be experiencing bullying:

  • Encourage them to talk to a trusted adult at school

  • Contact your child’s class teacher or the Headteacher through the school office

  • Be assured that concerns are taken seriously and investigated promptly

All incidents are recorded and monitored to ensure patterns are identified and addressed.

Safeguarding and Online Bullying

Some bullying behaviours may be safeguarding concerns. Where this is the case, the school follows safeguarding procedures and involves the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Bullying that happens outside of school, including online, is taken seriously if it affects a child’s wellbeing or school life.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe the most effective approach is one where school and families work together. We ask parents and carers to:

  • Reinforce our school values at home

  • Report concerns promptly

  • Support restorative approaches

  • Model respectful communication

Ongoing Support

After an incident, we continue to monitor and support children involved to ensure that bullying does not reoccur and that all pupils feel safe and confident in school.
